Uniforms

Class Uniform

The only uniform requirement is the wearing of a TCA T-Shirt and/or Windcheater in class, for all students who have reached 24 Form Level.

The uniform was introduced for the following reasons:

  1. To foster a feeling of belonging to a unified group.
  2. To provide recognition of your involvement in Tai Chi.
  3. To create a consistency and continuity to classes.
  4. To reinforce self-discipline.
  5. To promote Tai Chi and TCA to the public at large.

This is a simple requirement compared to many other Tai Chi and Martial Arts schools.

If you do not have your TCA T-shirt and/or windcheater yet, please see your instructor.

Traditional Tai Chi Uniform

Traditionally, Tai Chi is performed in a special uniform designed to make you look as if you are a floating cloud. The uniform is made from pure silk and comprises elasticized bloomer pants and a long-line jacket with a Chinese stand-up collar, long sleeves with double frog-buttons at the wrist and seven frog-buttons down the front. There is no standard colour requirement as it is a personal preference. However pale hues are more desirable due to their cloud-like appearance.

If you are performing at special demonstrations or decide to compete in Championship events, you will be required to wear a Traditional Uniform.

Traditional uniforms are made-to-measure. Tai Chi Australia has a tailor who makes all our uniforms. We have sample swatches of all the silk colours available. You select the colour, we take your measurements and the tailor does all the rest.

Traditional Wushu Uniform

There are many different Traditional Wushu Uniforms depending on the style that you are practicing. The Tai Chi Uniform is detailed above however nearly all comprise a bloomer-style pant with various full-sleeved, short-sleeved or sleeveless tops made in a variety of materials including silk and cotton. In some of the Wushu styles, there is a requirement to wear a certain colour but others are very open to interpretation.

Again, if you are performing at special demonstrations or decide to compete in Championship events, you will be required to wear a Traditional Uniform. Your instructor will be able to advise you on what is expected and brief the Tai Chi Australia tailor on your behalf.
